Ecology & Natural History
Habitat: Species is found to be increasing along expressways, where salting occurs in winter months. ILPIN Notes: Fleshy tender leaves and branches of this and other species of the genus are sometimes cooked as a vegetable. Plant needs to be cooked with several changes of water. Welkie, G. W., and M. Caldwell. 1970. Leaf anatomy of species in some dicotyledon families as related to the C3 and C4 pathways of carbon fixation. Canadian Journal of Botany 48: 2135-2146.
