Ecology & Natural History
Habitat: Species is distributed in sandy soil, rocky open woods and bluff edges. In northern Illinois it is found on limestone. ILPIN Notes: Species is caespitose, with stout, erect culms; contracted panicles. Species is restricted to a few counties running north to south in West Central Illinois. Variants have been designated as different species or varieties based on the ratio of palea-to-lemma length, by some authors. Functional Relationships:
