Species Description

Ecology & Natural History
Habitat: Species is distributed along roadsides, railroads; in low, wooded slopes, ledges, bluff bases, muddy stream banks, sandy bluffs; prairie swales, and moist ground near lakes. ILPIN Notes: Ref. 3 lists 2 forms. Ref. 8 gives 2 forms: F. frondosa with awnless lemmas; F. commutata with an awn 4-11 mm long. Species has scaly rhizomes, contracted panicles. In some areas it is becoming a weed, and is difficult to eradicate. Regarding weediness, it may be economic or colonizing. Functional Relationships:
