Ecology & Natural History
Habitat: Species is a cultivated crop; occasional escapee. ILPIN Notes: Stephens, H.A. 1980. Poisonous Plants of the Central United States. Regent Press of Kansas. Lawrence, KA. 265 pp. Awns of fertile lemma are untwisted at base. Sessile spikelet is 6-7 mm long, as long as the pedicillate spikelet, awn of fertile lemma is persistent. Species is grown as a substitute for maize in poor, dry upland soils. Species is collected from Jackson county; probably occurs elsewhere also. SCS V.2 - Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench. contains the same type and is the proper name. This grass, as S. vulgare, is in PIN. Functional Relationships:
