Ecology & Natural History
Habitat: Species is often distributed in disturbed sandy soils, sometimes in open woods, roadsides, railroads, and woodland borders. ILPIN Notes: Versus most Illinois Paspalum, this species has very small spikelets and a 3-nerved sterile lemma. Versus P. bushii, this species has glabrous spikelets, nodes, and, its leaves are not velvety on both surfaces. Species is only occasional in southern 2/3 of state; is rather rare elsewhere. Species is extremely variable in pubescence. Ref. 8 says that 3 varieties have been used by some authors, based on leaf pubescense; however, these varieties are not used in this work.
