Ecology & Natural History
Habitat: Species is distributed on partially wooded sandy fields; swampy low ground. ILPIN Notes: Only 1 type of spike with both male and female flowers. Staminate scales and flowers, usually prominent at spike base, less so or absent at apex. Species is scattered throughout Illinois. The blades and sheaths are pubescent, and the leaves are usually longer than the culms. Pistillate spikes are cylindric-oblong. Perigynia lack a prominent beak. Functional Relationships:
