Ecology & Natural History

Habitat: Species is distributed in fresh, moderately brackish, or alkaline waters; local in calcareous waters.

ILPIN Notes: Seed company numbers 1 and 11. Use of this species may be limited in Illinois. There are no floating leaves. This pertains to marshbirds and shorebirds which eat seeds as food. Regarding aquatic species food value, this pertains to aquatic furbearers, especially muskrats. Regarding aquatic species cover, this pertains to fish (especially bass) which eat plants for food. Roots plant spring or fall at 1000/roots/acre at 3' intervals.
