Species Description

General: Monocot, perennial

Shoots: basal leaf arrangment; simple leaf type; entire leaf margin; Parallel leaf venation; awl-shaped leaf shape

Ecology & Natural History

Habitat: Species is distributed in a small pond near Buffalo Woods Forest Preserve, Cook county. Ref. #7 says it is probably destroyed now.

ILPIN Notes: Species is rarely naturalized in Illinois. Regarding fruit, it may be follicle or other. This is a monotypic genus of Eurasia. This is sometimes used as a starchy vegetable or in breads. Some describe the rootstocks as bitter.
