Habitat: Species is distributed along roadsides and wastes.

ILPIN Notes: Plant escaped from cultivation. Species is cultivated for fleshy taproot, cooked as vegetable or served in salad. It may also use bases of lower leaves and young stems (several inches) as cooked vegetables. Roots are no good after top has flowers.
