Species Description

General: Dicot-herb, perennial

Roots: adventitious, fibrous, rhizomes

Shoots: alternate leaf arrangment; simple leaf type; entire leaf margin; Pinnate leaf venation; awl-shaped, linear, oblong leaf shape

Inflorescence: corymb, head

Flowers: perfect, unisexual, monoecious; complete, regular, irregular; yellow; epigynous ovary position

Ecology & Natural History

Habitat: Swampy calcareous spring-fed meadows in valleys.

ILPIN Notes: Occassional in northern half of state, rare in southern half. Attractive smooth-looking, mostly glabrous leaves, often reflexed below & corymbiform inflorescence of numerous, showy heads of flowers. Disk florets perfect, ray florets pistillate, & both fertile. Caudex present, sometimes creeping rhizomes also.
