Status/Listing: State Endangered Notes:It is interesting to not that several of the species names that are now considered to be synonyms of V. umbilicata, were formerly listed as State Endangered, V. patellaria and V. intermedia. These are all lumped together now as one species. Origin: Native

General: Dicot-herb, annual Roots: primary Shoots: opposite leaf arrangment; simple leaf type; entire, serrate leaf margin; Pinnate leaf venation; linear leaf shape Inflorescence: dichasium Flowers: incomplete, not sepals, irregular; white; epigynous ovary position Fruit: other Physiology: autotrophic; C3 C02 fixation Reproduction: sexual
Ecology & Natural History
Habitat: Forested sandstone canyons; dolomite outcrops; spring sites at base of cliffs, low ground. Species is distributed in meadows, damp roadsides. Dolomite banks; sandy slopes. ILPIN Notes: Bracts and bractlets without cilia, except sometimes at tip, fruits ovoid-ellipsoid made up of 3 cells, but 1-seeded. Western range limit. Fruits are 3-celled, 1-seeded, orbicular and flattened. This may be part of V. umbilicata (Sull.) A. Wood. Fruit 3-celled, 1-seeded, globular, not flattened. Functional Relationships:
