Habitat:

ILPIN Notes: This is an aggressive grower, can be used advantageously in controlling soil erosion on steep, barren slopes. Species is rarely encountered as an introduction. Cones mature in second autumn. Species is found east and south of Illinois. Needles are in 2's, sometimes in 3's, dark bluish green, stiff, usually twisted; cones are broadly ovoid, scales with strong, hooked spine. Typically this is a tree of poor soil.
