General: Monocot, perennial

Shoots: alternate leaf arrangment; simple leaf type; entire, other leaf margin; Other leaf venation; lanceolate, obovate, orbicular and peltate leaf shape

Flowers: unisexual, dioecious; 3 merous; complete, regular; yellow, green; hypogynous ovary position

Ecology & Natural History

Habitat: Species is distributed in rich woods in ravines, at bluff bases; found in association with Acer saccharum, Fraxinus americana, Juglans nigra, Quercus rubra, Tilia americana, Ulmus americana.

ILPIN Notes: Specific epithet is also spelled "ecirrhata." Species is occasional in northern 1/2 of Illinois, uncommon in the southern counties. Stems are herbaceous, unarmed, ill-scented.
