Habitat: Species is distributed on waste ground.

ILPIN Notes: Species is characterized by ring of short setae under tip of fertile lemma adjoins the body; very dense panicle; second glumes awnless or short-awned; sterile lemma awnless. Species is found throughout Illinois and U.S.; escapee from cultivation. Seeds may be used for human foods in the East Indies.
