General: Dicot-herb, annual

Roots:

Shoots: opposite leaf arrangment; simple leaf type; serrate leaf margin; Pinnate leaf venation; oblong, lanceolate leaf shape

Inflorescence: dichasium, raceme

Flowers: unisexual, dioecious; 4 merous; incomplete, not petals, regular; hypogynous ovary position

Fruit: achene

Physiology: autotrophic

Ecology & Natural History

Habitat: Species is distributed in cool, shady places, rocky canyons, moist depressions in woods; with standing water in spring; greater tendency to occur in springy or boggy sites than Pilea pumila - Betula pumila, Larix laricina.

ILPIN Notes: Species has less pellucid stems and leaves than Pilea pumila. Species may also be monoecious.
