Species Description

Ecology & Natural History
Habitat: Species is distributed on open soil; gravel bars, muddy stream and pond margins, and wet open woods; Ref. 4 lists as C. tenuifolius. ILPIN Notes: According to SCS V.2, C. tenuifolius (Steud.) Dandy has two names applied to the same plant, but no more is said. It is listed as this second name in Refs. 4 and 6. Species has a fragrant odor. It has a single flower (with scale) per spikelet. Spikelets are in clusters; clusters in larger semi- globose clusters are in turn gathered into globose heads; involucral bracts exceed head; scales are present. Species is restricted to southern 1/3 of Illinois. Functional Relationships:
