Ecology & Natural History
Habitat: Species is distributed in hard, fresh, slightly brackish, fairly clear, changing water which should contain some lime; prefers mud, sandy, or coarse silt bottom. It may be found in shallow water of lakes and streams. ILPIN Notes: Species is restricted to northern 1/2 of Illinois; and Alexander co. Form - tubers planted in spring at 1000/acre at 3' intervals; plants planted in spring at 1000/acre at 3' intervals; seeds planted in fall at 30 lbs./acre. This is a common tropical aquarium plant. Seed company numbers: 1, 11. Its use may be limited in Illinois. Regarding aquatic species cover, this pertains to fish. Also, this species is a favorite food of wild ducks. Functional Relationships:
