Species Description

General: Dicot-herb, perennial

Shoots: basal leaf arrangment; simple leaf type; serrate, lobed (pinnately), parted (pinnately) leaf margin; Pinnate leaf venation; oblong, ovate leaf shape

Flowers: perfect; 5 merous; complete, irregular; yellow; epigynous ovary position

Ecology & Natural History

Habitat: Species is distributed on lawns, gardens, about dwellings, meadows, along roads, and railroads.

ILPIN Notes: Species was naturalized from Europe. Species has achenes which are red to reddish-brown. Young leaves are excellent spring greens - best when boiled first; may be used in tossed salads. Possible use of roots for coffee additive.
