General: Dicot-herb, annual

Roots:

Shoots: opposite leaf arrangment; simple leaf type; entire leaf margin; Parallel leaf venation; oblong, lanceolate leaf shape

Flowers: perfect, unisexual, monoecious; 5 merous; incomplete, not sepals, regular, irregular; white; epigynous ovary position

Ecology & Natural History

Habitat: Species is distributed in cultivated and waste ground; shaded urban alleys, gardens.

ILPIN Notes: Pappus is well developed on disk achenes but absent or nearly so on ray achenes. Regarding leaf venation, species may also be pinnate. Species is also colonizing. Species is used as pot herb. Disk florets are perfect and fertile; ray florets are pistillate and fertile.
