WeDigBio 2019

Join us for WeDigBio 2019 at Illinois

Discover your inner scientist by participating in the University of Illinois WeDigBio Transcriptithon hosted by the Illinois Natural History Survey Herbarium.

Scientists have explored and documented the natural world for centuries, collecting billions of specimens now lodged in museums, universities, and field stations worldwide. The University of Illinois and other institutions across the globe want to make that information available to the general public, but they need your help!

The University of Illinois and the Illinois Natural History Survey Herbarium invites members of the public to help transform the handwritten or typewritten data sequestered on the labels of fungi specimens into an open, globally accessible, digital resource.

There will be pizza, games, and prizes from Jupiter’s at the Crossing, Lab Escape, Brainstorm Escapes, BodyWork Associates, CU Adventures, Industrial Donut, Jane Addams, Jarlings, U of I Ice Arena, and more to come!!

This event is one of the many transcription parties that will be held across the globe from October 17–20 during the Worldwide Engagement for Digitizing Biocollections (WeDigBio) event.

The local event at Illinois offers a social setting where people can transcribe specimen data while learning about the herbarium and local plant diversity, but members of the public can contribute from anywhere at any time during the event at one of the participating online transcription platforms. Register and ask how!
